CHARLOTTE, N.C. ― Canopy Housing Foundation, the charitable-arm of Canopy Realtor® Association, continues its Community Grants program, which supports nonprofit organizations in Canopy Realtor® Association’s Western Region of Haywood County. The maximum amount an organization may apply for is $3,000, pending availability of funds. Funds cannot be used for debt reduction or operational, administrative or capital expenses. 

Local housing organizations that are making a difference in the community through their housing initiatives must apply by May 27, 2021.  The application, which includes a brief narrative that details how funds will be used with supporting documentation, must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation by an active Canopy Realtor^® Association member.  The Foundation will announce the 2021 recipients at its Community Grants Celebration July 27, 2021, in Haywood County. Nonprofits must utilize the funds before Dec. 31, 2021. 

Last year, Canopy Housing Foundation awarded $14,200 in grants to five Haywood county area nonprofits and $3,000 to Haywood Habitat for Humanity. To date, Realtor® members have distributed $584,749.70 over the past 14 years through the Community Grants program and $254,500 to area Habitats for Humanity to support the good work that organizations are doing in addressing needs directly associated with shelter in Mecklenburg, Iredell and now Haywood County. Applications are rated according to community impact, project feasibility, fiscal strength and Realtor^® support.
