Why Should Realtors® Get Involved?

CRRA Housing Opportunity Foundation

Housing Opportunity Foundation

Vision: Realtors® affecting a better quality of life in the region.

Mission: Position and educate Realtors® as leaders, promote homeownership and provide funding to create housing opportunities.

Goals:
  • Educate Realtors® about fair and affordable housing
  • Educate workforce housing homebuyers
  • Advocate for workforce-housing
  • Fund workforce-housing programs
  • Promote volunteerism and philanthropic activities by Realtors®
History: In late 2002, the CRRA Board of Directors spent almost half of their annual strategic-planning retreat discussing how the association could improve its charitable efforts through its CRRA Charitable Foundation. Tony Smith, 2003 CRRA president, appointed a presidential advisory group to make recommendations to the CRRA Board of Directors on how to organize the charitable efforts of the association with the focus of the efforts on affordable housing.

In spring 2003, the CRRA Board of Directors approved the mission and vision for the foundation and established two funds at the Foundation For The Carolinas (FFTC): one "endowed fund" for long-term projects and one "non-endowed fund" for ongoing activities. The board also approved changing the name of the foundation to the CRRA Housing Opportunity Foundation (HOF).

The foundation is the umbrella organization for the association's focus on workforce housing. In addition to the Home GiveawaySM Program, other elements of the association include the Fair and Affordable Housing Advisory Council and the Workforce Housing Certificate Program, the latter of which includes a range of educational workshops to teach Realtors® how to work with first-time homebuyers. New programs being considered include a direct financial-assistance program and a grants program.
