Community Grants Program

The Community Grants Program launched in 2009 with the purpose of providing financial program support to area nonprofit organizations that address unmet housing needs in the communities of Mecklenburg and Iredell counties. 

Application Details
The application deadline was June 1, 2009 and $10,000 in supporting funds will be distributed by Sept. 31, 2009. Each eligible organization is required to submit an application with a brief narrative and additional documentation. All applications must also be accompanied by a letter of recommendation by an active Realtor® member of the Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association.

Learn about the 2009 Community Grants Program Recipients:

  • Wesley Community Development Corporation in Statesville received $2,500 to assist in the predevelopment costs for a three-bedroom home that will be built in Cornelius to house three mentally disabled adults.

  • Latin American Coalition in Charlotte received $2,500 to assist its foreclosure-prevention workshops and training for immigrant families. Funding will also support staff in assisting members of the Latino community who are at risk of losing their homes.
  • Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte received $2,000 for the center’s Substance Abuse Education and Recovery (SABER) drug-treatment program, specifically for phone lines for clients to use to acquire stabilized housing and secured employment.

  • Salvation Army of Charlotte received $2,000 to allow the organization’s Center of Hope to purchase bus passes for female residents of the center to assist them with transportation needs when seeking permanent employment and housing.

  • Hope House Foundation in Huntersville received $1,000 to assist in building a children’s recreation room at the Hope House facility. The room will create a safe place for children, and will provide a secure home environment as the mothers of the children seek permanent employment and housing.
