CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association (Association) and Carolina Multiple Listing Services, Inc. (CarolinaMLS) Chief Technology Officer Steve Byrd was one of three MLS executives nationwide elected in 2017 to serve on the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO) Board of Directors.

"It's an honor to represent CarolinaMLS on a board that has such an impact on the industry,” said Byrd, who also leads the Association and CarolinaMLS technology department. “I’m excited to help shape the standards that will streamline the real estate process and result in cost savings for the brokers, which ultimately helps their consumer clients.”

RESO was incorporated in November 2011 as an independent, not-for-profit trade organization that was previously a division of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). RESO actively develops, adopts and implements open and accepted data standards and processes across all real estate transactions. RESO’s data standards and processes facilitate software innovation, ensure portability, eliminate redundancies and obtain maximum efficiencies for all parties participating in real estate transactions.  RESO has more than 480 active members, including NAR, multiple-listing services, real estate associations, brokerages and industry technology providers.

Byrd was elected for a two-year term on the RESO Board of Directors. In 2017 he will also be serving his third and final year on the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) Board of Directors, an honor he does not take lightly. “My service on the board of CMLS has been a tremendous experience of growth and learning from real estate industry leaders,” said Byrd.

Association/CarolinaMLS CEO Anne Marie DeCatsye said, “Steve’s participation at CMLS, RESO and with other product-specific workgroups and committees keeps CarolinaMLS at the forefront of real estate technology.”

As if serving on two national real estate boards weren’t enough, Byrd was also chosen to participate in the CMLS’ CMLX3 program, the most comprehensive industry leadership program ever offered through the MLS industry for executives.

CMLS is the professional trade organization that serves to advance the MLS industry in North America through unified leadership, collaboration and education across the real estate industry. It was formed as a premier forum, advocate and resource in 1957 and has since evolved into a volunteer-led organization that is responsible for the advancement of MLS through education, innovation and the implementation of best practices, industry standards and next-generation solutions in support of MLS providers with more than one million subscribers.
